Blog #12

The World Wide Web article was not a very informative article, due to the fact we have either learned the information in class or read the information in other articles. The most interesting information to me, was that the filing cabinets are being replaced but electronic records. How great is that? Technology is saving the environment. Think about how much paper will be saved once when all school systems go 100% paperless or close too. The article talked about how teachers did not use technology because they were not trained or did not have the money. Because of this type of class, technology 422, teachers will have the education. I think the money issue could be solved, if teachers knew how to get grant money. That is one thing I am going to learn to do, apply for grants. The article stated that Filmaker Pro 4.0 and Claris Home Page 3.0 are great software's for teachers. I will do some research and get some grant money to get these programs.

The Database Americas Presidents- This article was based on the advantages of data programs. First the article stated that in the past education was based on the Three R's, Readin, Rittin, Ritmatic but now it is based on the Six C's, Compute, communicate, condude, confirm, categorized and classify. The first four C's are based on problem solving. The students have to use a higher order of thinking when education is based on the Six C's. This article has an example of the President project. The class would first have to define the fields. then they would have to figure out the layout and how the presentation would be viewed. Each student had to collect data for his president. Once they collected the data they entered it in the data base software. I could see how this would be useful in the classroom, The students would learn from each other.

Bells and Whistles- This article was about using a data base program, ClarisWorks. The advantage of this software was that only one computer was needed. Lets get real, most classrooms are lucky to have a computer. This software encourages students to think out of the box. They have to figure out what information is needed and not needed. 15 years ago data software only used text and numbers but with ClaisWorks it has many other options, date, time, yes and not, comment , and memo. This software takes learning to a thought process. The student have to organize the data so it makes sense. This type of software would be good for what i want to teach, High School math.

InpireData software is a great tool for teachers as well as students. Teachers can use it to analyze how their students are doing. They can enter all the data and get different kinds of feed back. This software is a time saver. The teacher can learn about their students habit and see if correlates to their grades. Teacher can go as far a knowing when it is the best time to give tests.

Inspiredata can encourage students to analyze different types of data. They could learn that when one thing happens it effect another. They will be able to understand the cause and effect of ones actions. Imagine if a C student did research on what effect sleep has on a students grades, and found that all or most all student who get less than 6 hours of sleep has a full point grade lower. Hon if that same student also get little sleep then maybe he will start getting more sleep. After a few week he notices his grades going up. That could possibly happen.

I will try to use this software in my classes. I could defiantly see this type of software being useful for high school math students. I think it will make student understand word problems much better. They will have fun and learn. I goal is to try to integrate technology in my classes as much as I can.
