I have no idea what I should say, when you ask what was a value. The whole class was so great. If the object of this class was to get more familiar with the computer and different programs, well this class did it. I cannot wait until I get my computer up and going, then I am going to do so much. First, I am going to organize my computer. Before, my computer was so unorganized, I could not find anything. It took me for ever to find my lost files. Next, I am going to backflip all the web sites that I think will be useful. Also, I am going to make sure all of my files are backed up so it my computer goes down again, I wont lose everything. I am defiantly going to explore on the web. There is so much information out there I want to use as much as I can to be on top of teaching. The one thing I struggled with in this class, I did not find everything useful for high school math. I know the more I search, on the web, I know I will find more useful actives for high school math. I have no idea why we had to do the blog. I did not find it to be useful. I think maybe it is to meet the writing minimum and to prove we read the articles. But, I did not get anything out of it. I don't think your class needs to be improved. All of your instructions were great. No need to improve.

Before filming make sure the camera being used is compatible with the computer in the computer lab. If your goal is to complete this project then be sure you follow all the directions. Make sure you have a camera with tape. Also, I think if each person in the group has certain duties, therefore the project will run smoothly.

I understand why movie producers do a few takes of the same shot. It helps to have a few different choices for different angles and time. During our production of the "Opposites" we only shot a scene once. I wanted to say something to the others but I did not, I am responsible for not speaking up. Since we had a rap with our video each scene had to been a particular length. So if the rap was about the lunch scene for 35 seconds we needed a minimum of 35 seconds of filming. I noticed a few areas we did not have enough film so I had fun with special effects. I would play a scene over and over again, to fill in the time. If someone saw my movie they would think I was trying to make it look funny. Also, I think if would have been good if we would have had different angles cause they my final movie would have had many more different options. So, When one is filming one should have many different takes, angles, and plenty of film.

Before I read this article I did not think of the importance of student learning to communicate with all forms of media, pictures, movies, audio and text. Back when I went to school I only had to learn the text. Student today need to learn all of it. Their future depends on it.

When the article stated that "Digital videos can enrich almost any content area, from literature to..." I was hope it would mention Math. But it did not. I would love to see many more options to help students in the math department. The article continued to talk about the Civil War. Using the video to teach children is such a great learning tool. If I were going to be an elementary teacher I would make this a project. Since schools don't have enough equipment I would assign a subject to each group. And as the subject comes up in our class I would have that group present the film to the class before the exam. That way each student will have an additional way to learn the subject matter.

Since I want to teach Math at the high school level I would have to be creative on how I could integrate this type of teaching. I think it would be a great way to teach the students. Not only do they learn the subject at hand, but they learn how to do a storyboard, write the scrip, be a director (take charge), edit, etc...

Now I am confused. In the article they talked about using imovie. Then they talked about the digital camera being connected to the computer. In our groups case we could not connect the camera with the computer. So we had to reshot the scenes. I think that maybe I need the software that came from my camera.

The World Wide Web article was not a very informative article, due to the fact we have either learned the information in class or read the information in other articles. The most interesting information to me, was that the filing cabinets are being replaced but electronic records. How great is that? Technology is saving the environment. Think about how much paper will be saved once when all school systems go 100% paperless or close too. The article talked about how teachers did not use technology because they were not trained or did not have the money. Because of this type of class, technology 422, teachers will have the education. I think the money issue could be solved, if teachers knew how to get grant money. That is one thing I am going to learn to do, apply for grants. The article stated that Filmaker Pro 4.0 and Claris Home Page 3.0 are great software's for teachers. I will do some research and get some grant money to get these programs.

The Database Americas Presidents- This article was based on the advantages of data programs. First the article stated that in the past education was based on the Three R's, Readin, Rittin, Ritmatic but now it is based on the Six C's, Compute, communicate, condude, confirm, categorized and classify. The first four C's are based on problem solving. The students have to use a higher order of thinking when education is based on the Six C's. This article has an example of the President project. The class would first have to define the fields. then they would have to figure out the layout and how the presentation would be viewed. Each student had to collect data for his president. Once they collected the data they entered it in the data base software. I could see how this would be useful in the classroom, The students would learn from each other.

Bells and Whistles- This article was about using a data base program, ClarisWorks. The advantage of this software was that only one computer was needed. Lets get real, most classrooms are lucky to have a computer. This software encourages students to think out of the box. They have to figure out what information is needed and not needed. 15 years ago data software only used text and numbers but with ClaisWorks it has many other options, date, time, yes and not, comment , and memo. This software takes learning to a thought process. The student have to organize the data so it makes sense. This type of software would be good for what i want to teach, High School math.

InpireData software is a great tool for teachers as well as students. Teachers can use it to analyze how their students are doing. They can enter all the data and get different kinds of feed back. This software is a time saver. The teacher can learn about their students habit and see if correlates to their grades. Teacher can go as far a knowing when it is the best time to give tests.

Inspiredata can encourage students to analyze different types of data. They could learn that when one thing happens it effect another. They will be able to understand the cause and effect of ones actions. Imagine if a C student did research on what effect sleep has on a students grades, and found that all or most all student who get less than 6 hours of sleep has a full point grade lower. Hon if that same student also get little sleep then maybe he will start getting more sleep. After a few week he notices his grades going up. That could possibly happen.

I will try to use this software in my classes. I could defiantly see this type of software being useful for high school math students. I think it will make student understand word problems much better. They will have fun and learn. I goal is to try to integrate technology in my classes as much as I can.

My thoughts on the midterm. I thought it was overall very easy. But, the first part I knew I got the .xls, .isf, .jpd wrong. I know I could have gotten them correct if I looked on my USB Memory. But I did not think I would be right, that would have given my three points more on my exam. So, If I looked, I would have gotten 16 out of 18. The only reason why I am telling you this, so on your next exam you give, you don't let the students put in their USB Memory. Because, we save all our work on it. The other two points I got wrong was the ISTE. I knew the main thing was ADVANCED search but I just could not figure it out. This part of the test was worth 2 points (I think). Although I got the wrong article I should have received a point for the cut and paste. Well, I wished I got a point for it. I don't think midterm 1 represented my knowledge well. I don't think this part of the exam should have been worth more than midterm 2.

I feel on midterm 2, I was able to show more of what I have learned in the class. The following, Print screen, inspiration, rapid fire, graphing, copy and paste, Power Point, is what I was able to prove to you of what I have learned. I am not sure what my grade is but the questions you asked represented the programs we learned so far.

It seems like WebQuest has the same idea that filamentality. Pretty much the teacher puts links together that he/she wants the student to look over. At first, I thought that the WebQuest would not be useful for high school math, I was wrong. I opened a high school math WebQuest for 9-12 grades and it was cool. It had an introduction, task, resources (links), process and a conclusion. Wow! What a cool way to intergrate technology with math. It was a living word problem, about the cost of airfare, time, and the relationship between the two. I think as a math teacher, I could keep students very interested in math using this type of lesson plan.

WebQuest FOCUS's on five principles. F ind great sites. This is probably the most important. If you don't find the corret site that keeps the students interested then they will not learn as well. O rchestrat the learners and resources. Make sure that you know what you want the students to learn. C hallenage the students. WebQuest can be fun so the students will not notice that you are chanlenage them. U se not only the Web but all sorts of media, BookQuest and so on, be creative. S caflod have high expectations. This type of learning is consitily evolving. My eyes again have been opened. My first reaction after looking at it I thought different type of WebQuests is that it would be a lot of fun for the kids. But, a lot of work for me as the teacher. I could use the search engines to find great WebQuests to use my classrooms. I think this will be a great way to should kids why math is use full. I can put it into real stituations.

I tried for three hours, to do filamentlity on math, I could not do it. I think that WebQuest would be a better program to use. I thought it would be fun to do my filamentality on Kangaroos. My URL is http://www.kn.att.com/wired/fil/pages/huntkangroosse.html. I directed the lesson plan for 4th or 5th graders. I think this is a great way to teach student life science because they get to see different web sites, pictures, and information.

Am I right when I said that Filmetality and WebQuest are the same, but just different types of programs?

I think wiki could be an advantage for a long project or a very short project. But, if it is a project with many people and a short amount of time, then wiki is frustrating. It seemed when I was able to get on wiki, know one else was on it. So my thoughts were not responded to right away. I had to wait, then they had to wait until I was on it. It seemed like my thoughts were not a part of the project due to the fact of time. But if it is a timed project that need to be done within a day, then everyone would have to work on it right away. We all would have to make the time at the same time.

I now understand what you mean by watch what you write because someone may take it the wrong way. For example, During our discussion page the following was said.

keseymour2 writes: policies
I believe we need two pages for Acceptable use Policies. One for teacher and one for the studentsPosted Thursday, 8:29 am

XXXXXXX: re: policies
wouldnt u think that the teachers and students should follow the same rules?Posted Thursday, 8:32 am

XXXXXXXXre: policies
one wuold hope...

"one would hope...." I took this as duh? of course they follow the same policies. I did take offence to this. I believe I am correct when you asked for two pages one for the teacher and one for the students. But I am not sure. I guess we will find out later.

A Building Block for teacher Vol28 #8

This article really made me think about how unfair the education system is. If anything the poorer schools should get the extra funding for computes, since the student probably do not have computer at home. This would be a great advantage for lower income students.

It seems to me everyone talks about what should be done and know one does any thing. We live in a very technological time therefor we should be teaching the students how to use technology. I think most people are to scared to stand up and fight cause they don't want to cause any waves. I

Since money is an issue, most schools don't have computers in all classrooms so the have labs. The major obstacle is equal access and equal time. The article was also saying that if there are only labs the it make the student think computers are "extra" but on the contrary they are the future.

Some classes have computer work stations with encourages student collaborative thinking, and helping each other. It is always good when students can help each other.

Teachers have to be more aware of technology. They can use it for the classroom and well as help them with different teacher tasks. Teachers should have prolonged training and then apply it.

I have always known I have lived in very small world. This world is in my control. The few hours I have spent on the Internet have also been small. I have only used Yahoo as my search engine. Yahoo has been my world. Now I have been exposed to so may more search engines. First, I didn't know that there was a big difference between search engines. I can not wait until I have the time to go to each engine and see the difference. In our readings they gave share a few search engines. I did paste and copy them so I could look at the another time. The one I feel will be most useful is the Math search engine (maths.suyd.eduk.au/Math Search.html) or Free search engine. I am truly excited for my kids and my future students. Thank you for opening my world.

The one thing with the computer I know is excel. Have worked on it in the past many times and I actually know it. After taking the test, I felt that I was a excel whiz. I know that I am not but I do understand how it works. I did get all the question correct but I guess if one never worked with excel it could be hard. I never thought about using excel as a teacher. But now I know I will. After I make my excel spreadsheet for the first year or semester I will have it easy.

May I state the obvious? Your class is so useful. This class is making me less scared about being a teacher. I feel that I will have great rescources to help thoses kids who will need the extra help.

Thank you!

I know now how much technology will help me as a teacher. PowerPoint, will be a big tool during lectures. As stated previously I plan to teach high school math.

As a teacher I could preplan my lectures. I could discuss each type of problem step by step. I would be able to keep the students engaged during the boring lectures. Using different types of effects will make learning more interesting and fun. Word Problems seem to be a huge problem for many students, with PowerPoint I will be able to have great sound, visual, and colorful effects to keep them interested. Once I have taught a few years I could use the same PowerPoint and improve the presentation as I feel fit. This would save time.

I know being a student is very hard when lectures are long and boring this PowerPoint would change that. If a student is visually stimulated then PowerPoint is a great stimulant. Also, if a student is a slow learner, absent, or does not understand they could get copies of the PowerPoint lecture for better understanding.

One way this would improve my teaching, I would not have to make new lesson plans every year and I would be able to help those students who need the extra help.

Bloom's Taxonomy

Could you image if teachers actually excepted students to recall, understand, apply, compare, synthesis and evaluate every thing we read. That would mean no more multiple choice and more work for the teachers. This actually would be a great thing but since in our education system says what we have to learn and when we need to learn it by that would be impossible.

If this theory was applied to math then a student would be able to figure out that math does have a purpose. You hear most students say "why do I need to know algebra I will never use it." I think in higher learning Bloom's Taxonomy would be better applied.

Again, I am surprised of how technology is used to help kids understand and keep interested in projects. When I went to school science was hard for me. If I had the opportunity to use WISE during projects my science knowledge would be so different.

Having an actual and a virtual field trip helps studens to better understand the world of science. These types of actives encourage students to think out loud and problem solve. Thinking out loud and problem solving with other students questioning each others thinking will make all students more involved.

When casual maps are used students start to understand the relationships between different data. They also better understand the cause and effect of the data. The most beneficial thing about the causal maps is that when a student wants to change the data he/she must explain why. Which does cause the students to interact more with each other. This isn't only good for learning about the subject at hand, but it also gives the student a better ability to argue his/her points more effective. This type on thinking can only be learn as a student does it, practice makes perfect. This type of learning also help the teacher understand what is being learned. Teachers also find that students are able too think in a complete circle and are able to self correct. The most impressive thing about causal maps is that the thinking become visible.

What have I learned this week in class? When I first entered this class I had mixed feelings. I was happy to start learning about technology but did not understand why I needed this class, after all, I want to teach high school math. What could I use technology in class for Algerbra? How stupid could I have been? No, not stupid, uninformed. On page 7, of the article, it mentioned that technology did enhance learning but they did not understand the true possiblties technology truly had. I thought the same up to two weeks ago. Now, I am seeing the advantage for using technology in the classroom. I can use rubic to make sure the students understand what I expect. Also, I will be able to make a newsletter fun and informative so the students will be interested. But most importly, I learned about the advantage of intergrating technology in the classroom. Between the supplement and the video, I view last week, I am going to send my children to High Tech High (HTH) which is located in San Marcos. I feel this would be a great advantage for their future.

Netiquette- The article was for the most part common sense. I guess I can say that with experience. With my ex husband I was communicating only via E-mail and a lot of his E-mails have been used against him. I did not know it could for sure, but I figured his e-mail address would be on it there for he couldn't say he did not write it. I did learn that chain letters were illegal. I have received them through E-mail but I don't bother with passing them on. Good thing. Before reading this article I never thought about how people only have one way of seeing you on the Internet, through writing. Delete doesn't mean delete. Well I guess I knew that because I do watch CSI from time to time. (ha ha ha) Overall, I found the article very uninformative.

Teaching for Understanding- This article, on the other hand, was very informative. As I was reading it I thought how can I apply Technology in high school math! Easy, as the article states knowledge comes from experience. I have had so many friends who did not understand word problems technology would have been easier to show/explain. We as teachers need to help the students apply what they are memorizing into real life or action. Technology can be used as a tool for teachers to be more effective and accurate. This statement is true especially for newer teachers who are a little scared there first year and they can prepare there lesson at home and present it to class through technology. Technology encourages students to explore facts they question. They could use different types of simulations and/or animations to prove or disprove the facts that are givin to them. After reading this article I realize that using technolgy is a great advantage for both the teacher and student.

This last week I have learned a great deal about computers. First I learned to to use the Printscn button. Then to get it off the desktop I need to open Microsoft Word and paste. But if a Mac is being used I need to Shift/apple/3. I also have an option to do a partial snap shot with the keys Control/shift/apple 4 the four finger move. Also, as you well know I need to email you through the Webct. That took me a few hours to figure out. CSUSM Library Courses/Webct. While using Microsoft Word I could input a picture and/or Text by using the insert file text box. If I click on to the box then go to insert file and picture then I have a choice were to get my picture from. I also learned that I could change the boarder or ever get rid of it all together. inaddition i learn how to write a proper busniss letter and signing it with a different font. I think the most import thing I learned this week is about the external hard drive. I know I need to purchase one do to the fact Iuse may different computers and it would be a bummer to lose all my picture and homework do to a black out.
